Six Smokies Named to All-Star Game

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Six members of the 2009 Tennessee Smokies roster were named Monday by the Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs to the 2009 Southern League All-Star Game.

Position players Jim Adduci, Darwin Barney and Blake Lalli will join teammates Casey Coleman, Jay Jackson and Brian Schlitter on the North Division roster at Regions Park in Birmingham, Ala. for the July 13 game.

Players selected for the Southern League All-Star teams are selected by a vote of Southern League field managers, radio broadcasters, general managers and print media.

Adduci, 24, is batting .306 with 13 doubles and 27 RBI through 71 games. He has 35 walks to 48 strikeouts on the season, and a .392 on-base percentage. The Cubs acquired Adduci in a trade with the Florida Marlins for minor league pitcher Zach McCormick in September, 2006.

Barney, 23, batted .317 with 12 doubles and 32 RBI in 74 games. He had 23 walks to 33 strikeouts, and a .368 on-base percentage. The Cubs drafted Barney in the fourth round of the 2007 draft from Oregon State.

Lalli, 26, is batting .302 with three home runs, 12 doubles and 20 RBI through 65 games. He has 15 walks to 20 strikeouts, and a .357 on-base percentage. The Cubs signed Lalli as a non-drafted free agent in 2006.

Coleman, 21, leads the Smokies' staff with eight wins and a 2.79 ERA in 15 starts. He has 48 strikeouts and 29 walks in 87 innings. The Cubs selected Coleman in the 15th round of the 2008 draft from Florida Gulf Coast University.

Jackson, 21, is the hottest pitcher in the Cubs' system with a 4-3 record and 3.15 ERA in 12 starts. He has 61 strikeouts and 25 walks in 65 2/3 innings. Since his April 29 start at West Tennessee, he is 4-0 with a 1.55 ERA in nine starts. Jackson was a ninth-round pick in 2008 from Furman.

Schlitter, 23, leads the Smokies with 12 saves and is 0-4 with a 4.64 ERA through 30 games. He has 28 strikeouts and 11 walks in 33 innings. The Cubs acquired Schlitter from the Philadelphia Phillies in August, 2008, for LHP Scott Eyre.
