Shipman Happy to Join A's

Right-hander Andy Shipman was acquired by the Oakland A's in the minor league phase of the annual Rule Five Draft on Thursday. Shipman left the Cubs some two-plus years after joining the club by way of the Boston Red Sox farm system.

The 25-year-old was one of five players whom the Cubs lost in this year's edition of the Rule Five Draft, and one of three players taken by the A's. Shipman was selected in the Triple-A phase of the draft after being left off the Cubs' 40-man roster and Triple-A reserve list. He spent most of 2006 at Triple-A Iowa, where he appeared in 46 games and was 2-3 with a 3.81 ERA in the Pacific Coast... Recommended Stories
