| Selected by Cubs in 16th round of 2004 draft (scout: Stan Zielinski) from Western Michigan University ... Won a team best 11 games for Class A Daytona in 2005, posting a 4.49 ERA in 24 starts, striking out 97 and allowing 37 walks. In 2006, he was selected to the Southern League Midseason All-Star team ... left-hander won 10 games for Double-A West Tennessee, posting a 3.27 ERA in 27 starts ... struck out 114 and walked 31 in 159 2/3 innings. In 2007, Mathes made 27 starts at Class AAA Iowa, finishing 10-8 with a 5.58 ERA in 151 2/3 innings. ... 2008: was 9-5 with 4.29 ERA in 27 appearances, including 22 starts, for Class AAA Iowa in 140.2 innings ... struck out 73 batters and walked 32. |
