| Selected in 12th round of 2004 draft from St. Thomas Aquinas HS (Fla.) ... Was 1-2 with a 3.12 ERA in 10 appearances during his professional debut season with the Arizona Rookie League's Mesa Cubs in 2004 ... tossed a combined no-hitter for Class-A Peoria on April 20, 2005, at Cedar Rapids in only his third start of the season ... Right-hander's 14 wins led the Midwest League at the time he was promoted to Daytona in late August ... was also the league's ERA leader for most all of the season and finished tied for most wins in the Cubs' farm system in 2005 (14) ... was named the 2005 Cubs Minor League Pitcher of the Year after going 14-5 with a 2.68 ERA, notching 146 strikeouts and 55 walks in 27 starts ... Selected to both Midwest League mid-season and post-season All-Star teams ... Spent 2006 between Class A Daytona and Double-A West Tennessee, finishing second in the Cubs' farm system in strikeouts with 171 in 164 2/3 innings; went 11-5 with a 2.52 ERA in 28 starts in 2006 ... Invited to Big League Spring Training Camp on Jan. 9, 2007 and made big league debut in 2007, spending time at Class AA Tennessee, AAA Iowa and Chicago, making 28 appearances total ... combined to go 10-3 with 3.10 ERA in 19 starts between Tennessee and Iowa. |
