Biography:
Selected by Cubs in third round of 2002 draft (scouts: Stan Zielinski and Bob Hale) from Morris (Ill.) High School ... Was recruited as a longsnapper in high school by Washington State University ... Won 13 games for Class A Lansing in 2004, posting a 3.50 ERA in 26 appearances including 24 starts ... Went to Class A Daytona for 2005 season, where he made nine starts and posted a 5.59 ERA before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery to repair partially torn rotator cuff ... Returned in 2006 to make 10 starts between Class Low A Boise and Daytona ... went 5-0 with a 2.23 ERA in seven starts for Boise ... tall right-hander features power fastball that topped out at 95 mph in 2006, hard slider and changeup in his repertoire ... Began 2007 in the bullpen ... Promoted to Tennessee (AA) April 27, 2007 ... Appeared in 18 games in relief with Tennessee, going 1-1 with a 2.37 ERA in 30 1/3 innings ... made big league debut June 27, 2007 after being selected from Class AA Tennessee. ... posted a 7.45 ERA in 8 appearances with big league club in 2007.
