| Was signed as a non-drafted free agent out of the Dominican Republic in July, 2001 ... In his first professional season with the Cubs, Pie (PEE-A) batted .321 in 55 games with the Arizona League Mesa Cubs, totaling 33 extra base hits and 17 stolen bases in 25 attempts ... In his first taste of full-season play, Pie batted .282 at Class-A Lansing in 2003 before a successful '04 season at Daytona earned him post-season Florida State League all-star honors ... In 2005, he began the year at Double-A West Tenn and was named to the Southern League all-star team mid-season ... He batted .304 with a career-high 11 home runs at West Tenn before an ankle injury cut short his season ... In 2006, Pie batted .283 with a career-high 15 home runs, 33 doubles and 57 RBIs in 141 games at Triple-A Iowa. He finished the year with the second most hits in the Pacific Coast League. In 2007, Pie made his major league debut and batted .215 with 14 extra-base hits in 87 games. He played in 55 games at Class AAA Iowa, batting .362. |
