| When he's right, mentally and physically, Jose Valverde appears to be a dominant closer in the making. His hesitation delivery, his canon fastball, his larger than life demeanor on the mound and his ability to bounce back from tough outings have made his the D'Backs closer of the future, and of the present. Unfortunately its been a couple of years since Valverde was right both mentally and physcially, and since the D'Backs have several different candidates for that closer's job, when Valverde was resigned in January, it was for just one year. This will likely be Valverde's last chance to prove himself, but he will have that opportunity, as the D'Backs expect Valverde to open the season as their closer. |
