| Selected by Cubs in ninth round of 2005 draft from the University of Virginia (scout: Billy Swoope) ... Graduated Landon Prep independent school in Bethesda, Md. ... Made 11 starts in 2005 at Class Low A Boise and was 1-3 with a 4.62 ERA in 48 2/3 innings ... In his first full season with the Cubs in 2006, the right-hander pitched exclusively from the bullpen at Class A Peoria, where he notched 18 saves and finished 34 games ... posted a 2.15 ERA in 67 innings, striking out 76 and walking 27 ... was a Midwest League All-Star, posting a 1.25 ERA through the first three months of the season -- a span of 27 appearances ... Features a fastball (generally 88-92 mph), curveball and slider in his repertoire ... Worked to develop the slider in 2006. |
