| Signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Cubs in June 2001 ... Jae-Kuk Ryu (JAY COOK ROO) entered 2006 a career 28-20 pitcher with a 3.48 ERA in 94 games, including 72 starts ... He missed playing time in 2004 with elbow soreness in his throwing arm but returned last season with a strong showing at Double-A in 2005 ... Ryu was 11-8 with a 3.34 ERA in 27 starts and logged 169.2 innings with the Diamond Jaxx ... Graduated from Duk Soo High School in Seoul, Korea in 2001 ... Struck out a record 20 batters in only seven innings during his final high school start in 2001 ... Made 21 starts for Triple-A Iowa in 2006, going 7-7 with a 3.50 ERA and logging 123 innings ... Promoted to Chicago for the second time on Aug. 23 ... Made one start previously for Chicago on May 28 vs. Atlanta, yielding six runs, including four home runs, in 1 1/3 innings ... Returned to Iowa on Aug. 26. |
