CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today completed the second day of the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. The club thus far has selected 30 players. The third and final day of the draft is tomorrow with rounds 31-50.

The Cubs selected a pair of local high school products today – right-handed pitcher Gerardo Esquivel from De La Salle Institute in Chicago in the 24th round (740th overall) and catcher Daniel Sheppard from Downers Grove North High School in the 30th round (920th overall).

Through the first two days, the Cubs have selected 12 pitchers (seven righthanders and five left-handers), nine infielders, five outfielders and four catchers. Additionally, the Cubs have to date selected 22 college players and eight high school players.
