Canzler sent two homeruns into the batting cages behind left field and also doubled and singled. He finished 4-for-5 and is batting .274 through 79 games this season.
“I was seeing the ball so well (Saturday), it was like a beach ball out there,” Canzler said afterward. “These kind of nights are few and far between, so I’m trying to visualize what I did and keep doing it.”
The game was tied, 4-4, headed into the sixth inning when Daytona manager Jody Davis ordered a squeeze bunt by Cubs third baseman Jonathan Mota that scored Yusuf Carter from third base, putting the Cubs ahead, 5-4.
“At that point in the game, I wanted the go-ahead run. Little did we know Russ would give us all the insurance we needed,” said Davis.
True enough, Canzler would club his second three-run homerun of the night in the seventh inning, putting the Cubs ahead for good at 8-4.
