Castillo Named to Futures Game

Chicago Cubs catching prospect Welington Castillo has been named to the World Roster for the 2008 XM All-Star Futures Game, to be played Sunday, July 13 at Yankee Stadium in New York. First pitch for the game is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. (EDT) with television coverage provided by ESPN2. The game can be heard on XM Satellite Radio, Ch. 175.

Castillo, 21, began the year at Class-A Daytona, batting .273 with eight doubles and 12 RBI in 33 games. He was promoted to Class AA Tennessee in late May and through 16 games there is batting .340 with three home runs and 13 RBI.

Behind the plate, Castillo threw out 12 of 40 opposing runners (30 percent) with Daytona and has gunned down four of 11 runners (36 percent) with Tennessee.

Castillo was signed by Cubs scout Jose Serra in the Dominican Republic in 2004. He hit .271 with 11 home runs and 11 doubles a season ago for Class-A Peoria.

Additionally, Class AAA Iowa manager Pat Listach has been named coach of the World Team. Listach began his coaching career as hitting coach for Class-A Lansing in 2000 and previously served as hitting coach for the Iowa Cubs from 2001-05. He also led Iowa for 55 games as the team's interim manager in 2002. Listach managed at Class AA West Tennessee and Tennessee from 2006-07.
