Cubs Have Signed 26 From 2008 Draft

CHICAGO- The Chicago Cubs today announced the organization has signed 26 players from the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, including the club’s second selection, infielder Ryan Flaherty from Vanderbilt University.

To date, the Cubs have signed 17 of their top-21 picks, 20 of their first 26 and 26 of their first 37 selections.

Flaherty, 21, played second base for Team USA last summer and set a Vanderbilt single-season record with a 35-game hitting streak in 2007. In 2008, the left-handed batter led the school with 14 home runs, 63 RBI and 39 walks while amassing a .324 batting average (83-for-256) with 10 stolen bases.
