Cubs Make Minor League Roster Moves

Clevenger receives promotion (STAFF PHOTO)

Two position players in the Chicago Cubs' minor league system are being promoted a level while one will attempt a position change.

Catcher Steve Clevenger has been promoted to Class AA Tennessee from High-A Daytona. The 22-year-old Clevenger, a seventh-round Cubs draft pick in 2006, began the season in a 0-for-17 slump and batted .190 in 18 games with Daytona.

The left-handed hitting Clevenger is expected to team with catcher Chris Robinson at Tennessee because Jake Muyco has been assigned to Extended Spring Training, where he will attempt to make the switch from catcher to pitcher. Muyco, an eighth-round draft pick in 2006, batted .190 (4-for-21) in eight games with Tennessee.

Additionally, INF Blake Lalli has been promoted to Daytona from Class-A Peoria. Lalli, 24, batted .283 with one home run, four doubles and seven RBI in 12 games with Peoria. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2006.

No other roster moves are known at this time.
