Murton headed back to Chicago

METAIRIE, La. -- Outfielder Matt Murton has been recalled from Class AAA Iowa. In 13 games with Iowa, Murton batted .317 (13-for-41).

UPDATED: Sat., 10:10 a.m.

Cubs Special Assistant to the General Manager Gary Hughes confirmed that Murton had been recalled following Iowa's 5-2 win over New Orleans Friday.

"He was called up," Hughes said as he was leaving the visitor's clubhouse.

Murton was a late scratch from the initial starting lineup in Friday's game between Iowa and New Orleans. The lineup change was announced roughly one hour before the scheduled 7:05 p.m. (CT) start.

To coincide with the move, Chicago optioned Eric Patterson to Iowa.
