CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today recalled from Triple-A Iowa left-handed pitcher Will Ohman, infielders Ronny Cedeno and Eric Patterson and catcher Geovany Soto. Right-handed pitcher Sean Gallagher was recalled from Double-A Tennessee. In addition, right-handed pitcher Steve Trachsel, obtained yesterday from Baltimore, will join the active roster today and wear uniform No. 52.
Ohman, 30, went 1-4 with a 5.06 ERA (18 ER/32.0 IP) and a save in 47 relief appearances for the Cubs to start this season before he was optioned to Iowa August 7. He has stranded 30 of 37 inherited runners for the big league club while recording 12 holds. With Iowa this season, the southpaw has a 2.70 ERA (2 ER/6.2 IP) in nine relief appearances.
Gallagher, 21, begins his fourth stint with Chicago, having also appeared with the big league squad June 6-21, July 5-20 and August 7-14. He has posted a 7.82 ERA (11 ER/12.2 IP) with one save in seven relief outings for the Cubs, making his major league debut with 3.1 innings of work June 9 at Atlanta. Between Double-A Tennessee and Iowa this season, he has gone 10-3 with a 3.10 ERA (35 ER/101.2 IP) in 19 starts.
Cedeno, 24, is batting .359 (103-for-287) for Iowa this season and posted a .446 average (45-for-101) with eight homers, 20 RBI and a .509 on-base percentage in 25 games in June to earn Pacific Coast League (PCL) Player of the Month honors. He broke camp with the major league team this season and has batted .118 (6-for-51) in 27 games over two stints with Chicago.
Patterson, 24, was recently named the second baseman on the All-PCL Team, having batted .297 (153-for-516) with 28 doubles, 14 homers and 65 RBI for Iowa this season. He begins his second stint with the Cubs, having appeared with the club in five games from August 6-14 this season. The left-handed batter picked up his first career hit August 7 at Houston off
