Infielder Kyle Reynolds was promoted to Double-A Tennessee late Wednesday night. The 23-year-old Reynolds batted .282 with a career-best 12 home runs and 44 RBIs with Class A Daytona this season.

Reynolds played in 74 games with Daytona, mostly at third base where he committed 19 errors in 168 total chances.

In 22 games in July, the left-handed hitting Reynolds batted .342 (25-for-73) with eight home runs and 20 RBIs. All but one of his 12 home runs this season have come since the All-Star break in mid-June.

A year ago with Class A Peoria, Reynolds batted .230 in 99 games. He was a sixth-round Cubs draft pick from Baylor in 2005.

“He’s swinging the bat a lot better (and) he’s on top a lot more now,” Daytona manager Jody Davis recently said of the hot-hitting Reynolds.

“Last year, he was hitting a lot of long fly balls and would get in a spurt where he would hit a couple of home runs. But for the most part, he was getting under the ball and putting it in the air a lot.”

In a corresponding move, outfielder Jorge Cortes was sent from Triple-A Iowa from Tennessee.
