Soto, 24, is hitting .341 (77-for-226) with a career-high 12 home runs, 55 RBI , a .412 on-base percentage and a .584 slugging percentage in 69 games for Iowa this season. The right-handed hitter was Chicago’s lone representative in the 2007 XM Satellite Radio Futures Game, played last Sunday at AT&T Park in San Francisco.
Originally selected by Chicago in the 11th round of the 2001 Draft, Soto was hitting .352 (51-for-145) against right-handed pitching and .321 (26-for-81) against lefties at the time of his promotion. His .341 batting average ranks third in the Pacific Coast League this season.
Soto appeared in 11 games with Chicago last season, as he spent the majority of 2006 with Iowa, batting .272 (93-for-342) with 21 doubles, six homers and 38 RBI in 108 games. He made his major league debut in 2005, appearing in one game with the Cubs.
Soto will wear uniform number 58 and is available for today’s 1:20 p.m. CT game against the Houston Astros at Wrigley Field.
Pie, 22, is hitting .216 (30-for-139) with two home runs and 18 RBI in 48 games for the Cubs this season. With Iowa, the left-handed hitter has batted .389 (49-for-126) with 24 RBI in 31 games for Iowa in 2007.
