Petrick began the year in Class-A Daytona, but was moved to Double-A in late April after just six appearances. The Illinois native was a third-round draft pick by the Cubs in 2002 from Morris High School in Morris, Ill.
The right-hander won 13 games and posted a 3.50 ERA in 146 2/3 innings in the Midwest League for Class-A Lansing in 2004, then underwent shoulder surgery in mid-2005 after nine starts at Daytona.
He returned a season ago and was 5-0 with a 2.23 ERA in seven starts at Class Low-A Boise before making the return trip to Daytona.
