Cubs catching prospect Geovany Soto has been named to the annual All-Star Futures Game, Major League Baseball announced Thursday.

Soto, 24, is currently the only Cubs prospect named to this year’s Futures team(s). The native of San Juan, Puerto Rico, will represent the World Team.

Through 54 games this season, Soto is batting .324 with eight home runs, 16 doubles and 41 RBIs for Triple-A Iowa.

Defensively this season, Soto has committed one error in 240 chances behind the plate while being charged with two passed balls.

He has thrown out 33 percent (9 of 27) of opposing runners.

The 2007 All-Star Futures Game is scheduled for 3 p.m. (CDT) Sunday, July 8, at San Francisco’s AT&T Park. The game can be seen on ESPN2.
