CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today placed infielder Daryle Ward on the 15-day disabled list with a left hip strain. In a corresponding roster move, Chicago has recalled outfielder Felix Pie from Iowa.

Ward, 31, has batted .270 (10-for-37) with five RBI, 10 walks and a .426 on-base percentage in 33 games for the Cubs. Signed by the Cubs as a free agent in December of 2006, he has made 25 appearances as a pinch-hitter, going 3-for-18 (.167) with seven walks.

Pie, 22, begins his second stint with the Cubs this season as he made his major league debut and batted .224 (11-for-49) in 18 games with Chicago from April 17-May 9 before he was optioned back to Iowa, where he began the 2007 campaign.

The left-handed batting outfielder has compiled a .389 batting average (49-for-126) with three home runs and 24 RBI in 31 games for Iowa this season. He owns a .468 average (44-for-94) against right-handed pitchers compared to a .156 mark (5-for-32) against right-handed hurlers. Pie hit .376 (32-for-85) in May after posting a .444 mark (16-for-36) in 11 April contests.
