Coats got the call up Tuesday

INF/OF Buck Coats has been promoted from Triple-A Iowa to Chicago, Cubs Director of Player Development Oneri Fleita said Tuesday.

The 24-year-old Coats was hitting .277 in 118 games for Iowa this season. Primarily a shortstop throughout his minor league career, he has spent the majority of 2006 in right field.

The left-handed hitting Coats had a .336 on-base percentage with Iowa and 16 stolen bases in 20 attempts.

Drafted by the Cubs in the 18th round of the 2000 draft, Coats was named to the 2005 Southern League All-Star Game a season ago at Double-A. There he hit .282 with a career-high 32 doubles in 127 games for West Tenn.

Over his last 19 games with the I-Cubs, Coats was 20-for-68 with five doubles and a home run.
