The Cubs received a 19-year-old prospect, Jose Ceda, from the Padres' Arizona Rookie League team in return for the 33-year-old's services.
Ceda was 4-2 with a 1.50 ERA in 13 games, including nine starts, for the DSL Padres in 2005. He threw two complete games and struck out 83 while walking 29 in 60 innings, holding opposing hitters to a .174 average against.
This season, in 23 innings in the Arizona League, Ceda is 2-0 with a 5.09 ERA. He struck out 31 and walked 13, with opposing hitters batting .235 against the right-hander. Over his last six appearances with the team, he has two wins and a 2.00 ERA with 26 strikeouts and 10 walks in a span of 18 innings.
