The 23-year-old Negron replaces Chattanooga's Aaron Herr, who was promoted to Triple-A this week. Negron was claimed off waivers from Toronto in May and is batting .370 in 38 games with the Jaxx. He has 14 doubles, three triples, a home run and 19 RBIs.
“Negron’s done such a good job since he got here,” Jaxx manager Pat Listach recently told Inside The Ivy. “He puts the ball in play. He’s got an above average arm. He can steal some bases and throw some guys out. He’s a good all-around ballplayer. He’s opened some eyes over here, that’s for sure.”
Negron was a first-round draft pick by the Blue Jays in 2000. Cubs Scouting Director Tim Wilken oversaw Toronto's draft at the time and still speaks highly of the left-handed hitting outfielder.
“As you can see by his average, he’s been swinging the bat very well,” said Wilken. “He also runs well in the field and is a solid defensive player. He’s got a chance to play all outfield positions. He plays the game well.”
Joining Negron in Montgomery will be: P's Rocky Cherry, Juan Mateo, J.R. Mathes and Chris Shaver; OF's Chris Walker and Nic Jackson; and INF's Scott Moore and Eric Patterson. Pitchers Carlos Marmol, Clay Rapada and Randy Wells were also selected, but were promoted.
Inside The Ivy will be live from Montgomery with coverage of the annual event beginning Monday.
