Hello, everyone. Happy Fourth of July! It's been a while since I blogged for everyone and I apologize for that. A lot has happened during the season and I've seen players come and go.
The first half was interesting to say the least. We finished one game behind the Chattanooga Lookouts with a 43-27 record. That was heartbreaking, but we had many chances to win the first half, and it just showed the team that every game is important.
Luis Montanez and Micah Hoffpauir got promoted to Iowa after our series with the Montgomery Biscuits. Luis was hitting .369 at the time and Micah was leading our whole organization in home runs.
Micah wasn't supposed to get a lot of playing time this season, but our first baseman, Brian Dopirak, went down with a broken foot in the first game of the season. It's funny how things pan out.
Carlos Marmol was promoted to the big leagues and let me say that he deserved the promotion. Now Cub fans have the opportunity to see this guy pitch. He has electric stuff and should be in the big leagues for a long time.
We also picked up Miguel Negron off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays, and he is one heck of a player. I don't know what happened with him in the Jays’ organization, but it's their loss.
Randy Wells and Clay Rapada also received promotions to Iowa, and Inside The Ivy favorite Adam Greenberg got a fresh start with the Dodgers’ organization. Hopefully, he can get his career kick-started with them.
While we didn't win the first half of the season, our team was well represented on the all-star squad. Eleven players total were nominated: myself, Nic Jackson, Eric Patterson, Scott Moore, Chris Shaver, J.R. Mathes, Juan Mateo, Rocky Cherry, Carlos Marmol, Randy Wells, and Clay Rapada.
I'm happy to say that I made the team this year. It's such an honor. It's been said that if you can play at the Double-A level, you can play in the big leagues. There's a good chance you'll see some of these players in the big leagues this year or next. Hopefully for some of the players, it will be this year.
I can't wait to play in this game. This was one of my pre-season goals and I'm relieved to know that I made the squad. I can't lie and say that I wasn't worried about making it. I was a little stressed until I got the news, just due to the fact that there are so many good players in this league.
With that said, I can relax a little bit and focus on other things. I know this is a short entry, but it's my birthday and I'm trying to spend time with my family. So, I'll see you guys later and I'll write from the All-Star game in Montgomery.
In the meantime, Happy Birthday, America!
