Riding a 13-game hitting streak at Class-A Daytona, OF/DH Nic Jackson has been promoted to Double-A West Tennessee.

The 26-year-old Jackson entered the year having missed all of 2005 and most of 2004 with injuries. He began 2006 in Daytona after the past two year’s worth of injuries.

“Because of the weather up north and the fact that he hasn’t played in the field in a very long time, we’re going to have him start at Daytona,” Cubs Director of Player Development Oneri Fleita said at the start of minor league play back on April 6. “We don’t want to force him to play left field every day at our Double-A club, where there’s only two American League clubs and not enough DH time.”

Jackson hit .275 in 18 games at Daytona with three doubles, three triples, a pair of home runs and seven RBIs. He stole six bases in eight attempts and made nine starts in left field with nine more as the team’s DH.

To coincide with the move, pitcher Stephen Bronder and OF Aron Weston were added to Daytona’s roster. Right-hander Angelo Burrows was released.

The 21-year-old Bronder joins the Class High-A club from Extended Spring Training. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent from Manhattan College in Riverdale, N.Y., last season and appeared in six games for the Arizona League Mesa Cubs in 2005, allowing nine earned runs in 21 1/3 innings.

Weston has spent the last three-plus years with the Cubs farm system. Originally a third-round draft pick by the Pirates, the 25-year-old is a career .254 hitter in seven seasons of minor league ball.

Burrows, acquired with right-hander Todd Blackford in the trade that sent Todd Hollandsworth to Atlanta last season, had allowed 15 runs in 12 2/3 innings for a 10.66 ERA. He allowed two runs or more in five of his eight appearances with the team.

To coincide with Jackson’s move up to Double-A, OF Adam Greenberg has been promoted from West Tenn to Triple-A Iowa. Greenberg was batting just .175 in 19 games with the AA team and was hitless in his last 17 at-bats with the club.
