Junior Lake hits first DWL homer
Dominican Winter League Junior Lake had his best game, smacking his first homer of the season while adding a double and a single in Estrellas' 8-4 loss to Aguilas. After striking out in the first, Lake blasted a solo homer over the left field wall in the fourth, making it back-to-back bombs as former Cub Felix Pie homered. Lake added a double in the sixth and a single in his final trip to the plate in the 8th. The outfielder is hitting .316/.333/.526 in five games. Julio Borbon pinch-ran in the seventh and scored in Licey's 10-5 win over Gigantes. Borbon played left field for two innings and was pinch-hit for in the 8th. Arizona Fall League Matthew Loosen got tagged with the loss allowing the game-winning run in the bottom of the 11th in Mesa's 5-4 loss to Glendale. The right-hander surrendered a leadoff double and then a wild pitch mover the runner to third. After a strikeout, a base hit to right field ended the game. Loosen worked a 1-2-3 10th with another strikeout. Albert Almora recorded his second multi-hit game of the month with a pair of singles, including one in Mesa's four-run eighth that plated a run. Almora was retired his first three at-bats, but finished the day with singles to center and right. Almora was picked off first by catcher Tucker Barnhart at first with one out in the 10th. Venezuelan Winter League Eduardo Figueroa (2-1 5.68) was impressive in his first start tossing five shutout innings behind seven strikeouts. The right-hander allowed six hits and a walk, facing 22 hitters. Figueroa didn't retire a hitter in the last appearance on Oct. 17, giving up three straight hits before being taken out. Loiger Padron allowed two runs on three hits and a walk in his inning of work during Caracas' 13-1 loss to Aguilas. Padron (1-0 4.32 ERA) had only allowed two earned runs over his first 7.1 innings.
