Kyle Hendricks won his 10th game of the season fanning six in seven strong innings as Tennessee beat Huntsville 6-3. Zeke DeVoss reached base for the 19th straight game in Daytona’s 6-0 win over Palm Beach. Tyler Ihrig earned his first pro win at Mesa while the DSL and VSL Cubs won.

AAA—Oklahoma City 5, Iowa 0

Oklahoma City (58-50) held Iowa (51-57) to four hits as four pitchers combined for the shutout.

At the Plate: Edwin Maysonet had two singles while Logan Watkins and J.C Boscan had the other two.

On the Mound: Barret Loux (4-5 4.34 ERA) took the loss giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks. He fanned four and threw 104 pitches. Alberto Cabrera made his third relief appearance for Iowa working two innings while allowing a run on a hit and a walk. The Cubs may be getting Cabrera ready for a September call-up to Wrigley to work out of the pen.

AA—Tennessee 6, Huntsville 3

Tennessee (21-13 55-48) launched four homers and Kyle Hendricks won his league-leading 10th games as the Smokies downed Huntsville (15-19 44-58).

At the Plate: Rubi Silva went 3-4 with a homer and 2 RBI while John Andreoli (2), Justin Bour (14) and Christian Villanueva (14) all hit solo homers. Villanueva added a single and scored twice, and Jonathan Mota was 2-4 with a RBI.….OF Rubi SIlva has been productive with the bat and that continued Saturday night smacking his 13th homer of the season, extending his hitting streak to 13 games. The left-hander has sky-rocketed his power numbers having only 10 career homers in his first two pro seasons. The Cuban ranks third in total bases and fourth in slugging (.479) in the Southern League. His only flaw at the plate is he continues to swing at most everything he sees with only 11 walks in over 350 plate appearances.

On the Mound: Kyle Hendricks (10-3 1.87 ERA) is the odds on favorite to be named the Cubs 2013 Minor League Pitcher of the Year as the 23-year-old has dominated the Southern League. He added another strong outing to his 2013 resume allowing six hits and two runs, one earned, in seven innings. The right-hander threw 92 pitches and recorded six strikeouts. Zach Rosscup (2-1 2.45) worked a scoreless eighth, but the Smokies had trouble in the ninth as Frank Batista (3-3 2.59) had to come in of relief of Tony Zych (.1IP 1H 1ER 2BB) for the final two outs to earn his 13th save.

High A—Daytona 6, Palm Beach 0

Three pitchers combined to blank Palm Beach (18-14, 47-53) while Dustin Geiger went 3-4 with two RBI to lead Daytona (19-12, 54-43) to the win.

At the Plate: Geiger put the Cubs on the board in the 8th win a two-run single. After a wild pitch made it 3-0, Taiwan Easterling doubled home Geiger. Benjamin Carhart added a two-out single in the two-run ninth. ……...Zeke DeVoss may be the only legitimate leadoff hitter in the Cubs system as he’s spent the year finding ways to get on base despite only hitting .246. After 88 games, his on-base percentage is flirting around the .400 mark and the third-year pro leads the FSL in walks (61) and hit by pitches (19). With a walk to leadoff the game, DeVoss had reached base in 19 straight games.

On the Mound: Eduardo Figueroa (1-4 4.10 ERA) made a spot start as Ben Wells was put on the DL and Matt Loosen went back to Tennessee. The right-hander made the most of the opportunity tossing five shutout innings allowing six hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Figueroa has pitched 14 straight shutout innings. Zach Cates, tied for first in games started for Daytona with 19, made his second relief appearance working a scoreless sixth. Jeffry Antigua (1-0 0.00) earned the win allowing a hit and a walk with three strikeouts. Daytona is the third Cubs minor league affiliate Antigua has won a game for this year (Kane County 3-1 and Iowa 2-1). He also pitched in Tennessee but didn’t get a decision in his only outing.

Cubs Notes: Ben Wells (6-6 3.45ERA/1.19 WHIP) was placed on the disabled list July 23. The 20-year-old was the workhorse for Daytona leading the team in IP (101.2 and tied for first in starts (19)…...Cubs have had an extra base hit in 21 straight games.

Kane County (39-60) only managed five hits and Peoria (56-45) scored three times in the bottom of the first.

NWL All-Star Daniel Lockhart (.317/.364/.352) went 3-4 and scored the Hawks only run on a Jacob Rogers (.286/.398/.429) single. Kris Bryant (.150/.227/.350) was 1-4 but Lockhart got thrown out on the infield single as he tried to score from second. Last year in Boise, NWL hit .307 against the New Jersey native going 1-5 with a 5.37 ERA in 15 games compiling 60.1 innings with eight homers. Pugliese has established himself as the top arm in Boise, evident by his recent all-star game selection. In his 8th start Saturday, Pugliese matched a season-high six innings allowing a run on five hits. He didn’t walk a hitter and fanned four. He came into game with a 14-inning scoreless streak but that ended in the first on an infield single, a hit batter, a double play and a bloop single. Fifth-round pick Trey Masek walked two in his two innings of work and has not allowed an earned run since joining Boise in 10 innings. RHP Eddie Orozco (0-1 7.20/2.00) walked two and surrendered two hits, including a two-run single. Orozco, a 22nd round 2012 pick, is on a rehab assignment from Kane County.

Hawks Notes: Boise’s Saturday morning start was due to the Boise Music Festival held next door at the Expo, which included performances from Vanilla Ice and Candlebox…….Shawon Dunston (.328/.411/.422) missed another game and has not played since a collision with David Bote on July 21.
