The injuries continue to mount for the Oakland A's, as Josh Reddick becomes the latest player to land on the A's suddenly crowded disabled list.

The Oakland A's built up a lot of depth over the off-season and they have already had to use most of it, as early season injuries have continued to pile up. On Wednesday, outfielder Josh Reddick joined Scott Sizemore, Fernando Rodriguez, Brett Anderson, Coco Crisp, Chris Young and Hiroyuki Nakajima on the disabled list. Reddick was placed on the DL with a wrist injury.

Replacing Reddick on the A's roster is Daric Barton, who returns to the 25-man roster after losing out on a spot this spring. The former A's top prospect has had a strong season for Triple-A Sacramento thus far, putting up a .287/.422/.465 line in 101 at-bats. Barton was also playing well defensively at first base for the River Cats.

Barton is out of options, so he was a non-roster player until earlier today. To add him back onto the roster, the A's had to clear a spot. They chose to release left-hander Jordan Norberto. Norberto was one of the A's most valuable relievers for much of last season, but he was injured early this season and hasn't pitched since the first week of the campaign.

Because Barton is out of options, he will need to clear waivers for a second time if the A's decide to send him back to the minors when Reddick, Crisp or Young return. Barton went unclaimed during the waiver process at the start of the year, likely because he is owed more than $1 million for this season. However, given how well he has played in Triple-A this year, Barton may not be sneaked through waivers as easily a second time. This could impact the A's decision-making in regards to the roster when their injured players start to get healthy again.

Outfielder Jeremy Barfield will take Barton's spot on the Sacramento roster. Barfield has been red-hot for Double-A Midland, connecting on homers in each of his last three games. He has eight homers on the season and an 848 OPS.

Barfield's addition to the Sacramento roster is a sign that Shane Peterson is likely to see more time at first base. He had been playing in the outfield almost exclusively with the River Cats, but he played first during his brief stint with Oakland earlier this year.

No announcement has been made as to who will replace Barfield in Midland. If the A's dip into the Stockton outfield for a replacement, Josh Whitaker may get the call. Whitaker has an 837 OPS for Stockton this season and has a 913 OPS over his last 10 games.
