Jaramillo out as Cubs hitting coach

The Cubs have fired hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo. James Rowson, the organization's minor league hitting coordinator, will step in an interim role.

Rudy Jaramillo has been fired as the Cubs hitting coach. James Rowson, the Cubs' minor league hitting coordinator, will place Jaramillo in an interim role.

The Cubs currently ranked 27th in the league in runs scored, and own a team batting average of .247. Overall, the Cubs' record stands at 20-40 on the season, the worst in the major leagues.

Jaramillo was in the second year of his three-year deal, worth $2.42 million, hired by former Cubs general manager Jim Hendry in October of 2009.

Rowson joined the Cubs organization this season after six years with the New York Yankees. He is in his 11th season as a professional hitting instructor.
