The Cubs will receive a big boost on Thursday. Starting pitcher Ryan Dempster and right-handed reliever Kerry Wood have been activated from the 15-day disabled list.
Dempster's record stands at 0-1, but his ERA is at 1.33 through three starts. He has 23 strikeouts thus far. He was battling a strained right quad.
Wood was placed on the disabled list with shoulder fatigue, his league-leading 15th career stint on the shelf. Wood's record stands at 0-1 with an 11.57 ERA in four appearances.
In conjunction with the transaction, Scott Maine and Randy Wells were options to the Triple-A Iowa Cubs.
