Farm Report: Peoria Slams It

Iowa, Tennessee and Daytona each dropped their contests, but Peoria won in grand fashion. All the details from Tuesday's action are inside the Northsiders Report Farm Report.

Triple-A -- Iowa Cubs (8-12_

Redbirds' Ace Silences I-Cubs Memphis: 4, Iowa: 0

Shelby Miller is a name that Cub fans will know for many years going forward. The Cardinals' top prospect was dominating on Tuesday, helping Memphis earn a 4-0 win. Miller worked five shutout innings, surrendering just five hits while striking out six batters. The Redbirds' bullpen combined for four shutout innings in relief.

Iowa starting pitcher Travis Wood (L, 1-2) worked six innings, allowing two runs, just one earned, striking out eight batters, but picked up the loss. Esmailin Caridad allowd two ninth-inning runs, helping Memphis insure its win. Luis Valbuena and Wellington Castillo highlighted the Cubs' day with two-hit performances.

Double-A -- Tennessee Smokies (10-10)

Chattanooga Squashes Smokies' Rally Chattanooga: 7, Tennessee: 5

Trailing 7-0 early in the game, Tennessee tallied a run in the fifth, then four in the eighth, but could not complete the comeback, falling 7-5 on Tuesday evening. Dae-Eun Rhee (L, 1-1) allowed five earned runs, seven total, in five innings of work. However, Scott Weismann and Casey Weathers worked four innings of work, allowing just two hits.

James Adduci helped rally the Smokies back with a three-run double to center field, scoring Michael Burgess, Juan Apodaca and Nate Sampson. However, he was stranded in scoring position. In the ninth inning, Justin Bour reached on a two-out single, but Rebel Ridling ended the game with a flyout.

High-A -- Daytona Cubs (5-13)

Hot Hitting Pushes Lakeland By Daytona Lakeland: 13, Daytona: 5

Hayden Simpson (L, 0-3) continued to struggle, allowing five earned runs, six total, eight hits and seven walks in 4.1 innings of work, while Lakeland earned a 13-5 win over Daytona. Eduardo Figueroa and Brett Wallach wold allow seven runs in the following 3.2 innings of relief.

The Cubs' top-four hitters, Matthew Szczur, Arismendy Alcantara, Rubi Silva and Greg Rohan, each chipped in Daytona's RBIs in the loss. The Cubs mustered 12 hits, but were doomed by shaky pitching and three errors.

Low-A -- Peoria Chiefs (8-11)

Chiefs Walk Off In Grand Fashion Peoria: 6, Lansing: 2

Paul Hoilman gave the Chiefs a grand victory, knocking in four on his walk-off ninth-inning home run to give Peoria a 6-2 win over Lansing. Hoilman's grand slam followed Wes Darvill's two-run double, capping off a six-run ninth-inning.

Benjamin Wells (W, 1-1) earned the victory for his three innings of relief work, though he did surrender two runs in the process. Kyler Burke worked six shutout innings in his start, allowing just three hits. His ERA is now at 1.04 for the campaign.
