Farm Report: Daytona Rolls

Daytona rolled to an easy victory, while Tennessee held on for a tight win. Meanwhile, Iowa and Peoria fell short in their comeback attempts. Get the full details in the very first Northsiders Report Farm Report.

Triple-A
Albuquereque: 5, Iowa: 4

Cubs starter Frankie De La Cruz (L, 0-1) surrendered three runs in the first inning, putting Iowa in a hole it could not overcome. The Isotopes led the entire game, earning a 5-4 win over the Cubs.

Trailing 5-2 in the eighth inning, Brett Jackson knocked in a run, but would be stranded. In the ninth, Dave Sappelt hit a two-out RBI single, but Albuquerque closer Scott Rice would retire Josh Vitters for the game's final out.

Double-A
Tennessee: 3, Chattanooga: 2

The Smokies scored a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh inning, then held on for a 3-2 victory over the Chattanooga Lookouts. Tenneessee tallied 13 hits, but left 17 runners on base. The Smokies would break the tie on a seventh-inning single by Rebel Ridling, scoring Logan Watkins.

Smokies starter Brooks Raley surrendered two runs on three hits in six innings of work, but finished with a no-decision. Kevin Rhoderick (W, 1-2) recorded his first win of the season in 1.2 innings of work. Alberto Cabrera picked up the last out of the eighth inning, then shut down the Lookouts in the ninth, earning his first save of the season.

High-A
Daytona: 9, Tampa: 2

Daytona tallied eight runs in the opening three innings, rolling to a 9-2 victory over Tampa. Cubs 3B Greg Rohan knocked in five RBIs, including a three-run home run in the second inning. Nelson Perez and John Andreoli each recorded an RBI, while Ronald Torreyes and Richard Jones tallied three hits.

Cubs starter Austin Kirk (W, 1-0) worked seven innings, surrendering just a run on five hits. Brett Wallack and Casey Harman each worked an inning in relief, with Harman working a one-two-three inning.

Low-A
Great Lakes: 7, Peoria: 5

Trailing by four in the ninth inning, Peoria started a comeback. Pin-Chief doubled in a run, then Brad Zapenas would later score from third on an error, making the Great Lakes lead 7-5. Loons closer Eric Eadington would enter after the double, earning his third save of the season, while striking out Ryan Cuneo and Oliver Zapata. Great Lakes held on for a 7-5 win.

Chiefs starter Willengton Cruz (L, 0-3) was chased in the sixth inning, allowing five earned runs and seven hits. Peoria finished the game 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
