Kerry Wood's season got off to a sluggish start, and has now come to a halt. The veteran reliever was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 14th, with right shoulder fatigue.
In conjunction with the move, right-handed relief pitcher Scott Maine was called up for Friday's game to take Wood's spot in the bullpen.
Wood is 0-1 with an 11.57 ERA in four appearances this season. However, Wood did not allow a hit in his last two outings, including a three-strikeout inning against Milwaukee on April 11th.
Maine, a 27-year-old, has a career 4.95 ERA in his 20 major-league relief appearances.
