Scouting Report

Hatley looks the part on the mound if nothing else. He's long, athletic and has a strong lower half. So, his velocity comes as no great surprise. Hatley has been working at 94-96 mph in the AFL and topping out at 97 with relative ease. He has a quick arm and he has a lot of hop through the zone. He's getting some swings and misses up in the zone against some very advanced hitters as well. When he's pitching aggressively, he can dominate with his fastball.

Staying in the strike zone is a problem, however. He gets into some release point ruts now and then and then has trouble getting to his secondary pitches. And, Hatley does have an outstanding breaking ball to go with that fastball as well. He throws a power curveball at 82-84 mph and a harder slider at 86-88 mph. Both pitches have fantastic plus depth and late action. Hatley has two potential dominant pitches and looks like a guy who could pitch in the back of a big league pen. Command is an issue, however.
