Burke Begins New Plight

The Cubs are taking on another position change project at the lower levels of the farm system this spring. Kyler Burke, a first-round draft pick in 2006 with the San Diego Padres who spent three-plus years in the Cubs' system as an outfielder, traded in his bat this spring for a chance at a fresh start on the pitcher's mound.

Just a season ago, a position change for Burke seemed unlikely. He was the reigning Player of the Year in the Cubs' farm system after batting .303 with 15 home runs in 132 games for Class-A Peoria, and was ranked the No. 11 prospect in the organization by Baseball America.
